Our Story

Planted from one raised bed, grown into everything else.

Rosa Maldonado moved to Sonoma in 2007 with a job at a local vineyard and a habit of growing more food than two people could possibly eat. By 2009 her front half-acre had outgrown the driveway stand, and Mama's Garden Market opened its first full season.

The name came naturally — neighbors had been calling her place "Rosa's" and then "Mama Rosa's" for two summers already. Today the market sits on the same parcel on Sonoma Highway, two blocks from the Plaza, where regulars from Glen Ellen to Napa come to browse starts that don't show up at the chain stores.

Everything we sell is either grown here, sourced from farms within 25 miles, or selected from seed companies whose practices we can describe from memory. That's not a marketing claim — it's just the way it's always worked.
